Cascade Creek

A week before my first run down the upper part of Cascade Creek, I sat at my desk having my morning coffee while pretending to answer emails.  That was when I first saw pics of this part of Cascade Creek.  As I sat in my chair with my jaw in my lap and drool on my keyboard I knew I needed to get on this run.  I almost couldn’t believe that this creek was only 20 minutes from my front door.  I had long known about the huge double 40 footers and the now ex-world record 110ish-footer.   The pics I was seeing looked more like something out of Califonia than my backyard.  Thankfully it would only take me a week before I got to fire this run up.

This run does have a rather steep and when I was there, very hot, hike in.  The hike up and I do mean up, took a little over an hour.  Followed by a 15 minute scamble down to the creek.  The creek starts off with some boulder smashing down a  steep section.  The flows we were there at were the minimum for this part, and the 2nd boulder section after the canyon.  The Canyon section is really the glory of this run.  There are huge slides, big drops, awsome boofs and everything else in between.  For the most part anything could be walked with relative ease.  Right off the bat in the canyon section you find yourself sizing up a masive high speed slide into a vertical 10 footish drop.  The drop lands in a pool with a tight pinch into another fairly manky rocky 20 footer.  There is a cave in behind the exit falls but I’m told by one member of the team that it’s kinda nice in there.

 Here are the pics  . . .

"The BIG One" this is the biggest slide in the canyon. Its easy to run right down the middle with a nice drop off right into a pool.

If in the area check out Norrish Creek, its right next door to Cascade.

Check out Steve Arns site for the pics and beta that greased the wheels for this run.  It was great having Steve along who knew some of the lines through the boulder mess or it would have taken a lot longer to scout every drop.
