Description: The Bromley Rock to Stemwinder Campground is the most popular section on the Similkameen River. The Put in at Bromley Rock has a Provincial Campground, and large beach with white sand. There is a large pool and even some cliff jumps on the left bank. This can be a very busy place during prime Okanagan season, it’s a popular spot to cool off for people commuting to or from the coast.
Just down stream of the large pool at the Bromely Rock put in is a surf wave at medium high flows. This can be a very nice wave and even has eddy service if the levels are just right.
There is also a Campground at Stemwinder where you take out for this run. Because of the great camping, awesome weather and easy whitewater this is usually the location of choice for the Vancouver Kayak Club’s Annual Social. With the Ashnola River just down the road its got something for just about everyone.
There is one rapid on this section that is sometimes called class 3 because there is actually 1 rock to avoid. I would not consider it class 3 at any level that I’ve seen it. The Rapid is Called Golden Dawn.
Expect to see lots of other users on this river in just about everything that floats.
